The 5-Factor Diet

Posted in Gossip at 10:42 am by lesliegirl

Unlike a lot of other celebrities, when Perez Hilton decided he wanted to loose weight he wanted to do it a healthy way and keep it off.  He decided to try Harley Pasternak’s 5-Factor Diet.  The diet seems pretty simple, eating 5 meals a day 6 days a week with one off day. Members get hundreds of recipes that use only five ingredients and take only five minutes to prepare.  He also believes in a lot of short 25 minute workouts, instead of one long one.

Has anyone tried this yet?

Plus Size Model

Posted in Gossip at 7:16 pm by lesliegirl

Are any of you fans of Americas Next Top Model?  Let me just tell you that I have been watching it and it makes me so mad that they want to call Kortnie Cole a plus size model.  Don’t get me wrong, Kortnie is a beautiful woman, however she is not a plus size person.  It makes me so mad to think that young girls are watching this and thinking that an average size women (who by the way looks great in a bikini) is plus size.  It just makes me so upset that we all watch this and think that we need to be smaller then her to be considered a “Normal Weight”.

Just the other day I was in the car with my friends 14 year old daughter.  She was saying how her pants got wet and she had to borrow a friends pair of jeans.  She was complaining that her friend was overweight and the jeans were way to big on her.  She went on to say that her friends pair of jeans was a size 3 and she usually wears a 1 or a 0.  I couldn’t believe my ears.  When did a size 3 become overweight?

I seriously think we need to all re-evaluate ourselves and love ourselves for who we are.  What I am in the process of doing is eat  healthier,  loose weight, work out, have a long lasting life, and be able to shop anywhere I would like.

Whatever shape, size, or weight you are, remember to always love yourself and know that you are beautiful. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 5 Ways to Loose Weight

Posted in Gossip at 6:46 pm by lesliegirl

I was looking at Readers Digest  on line, and that had the top 50 ways to loose weight.  I decided to pick my top 5 in no particular order:

1) After breakfast, make water your primary drink. At breakfast, go ahead and drink orange juice. But throughout the rest of the day, focus on water instead of juice or soda. The average American consumes an extra 245 calories a day from soft drinks. That’s nearly 90,000 calories a year — or 25 pounds! And research shows that despite the calories, sugary drinks don’t trigger a sense of fullness the way that food does.

2) Eat five or six small meals or snacks a day instead of three large meals. A 1999 South African study found that when men ate parts of their morning meal at intervals over five hours, they consumed almost 30 percent fewer calories at lunch than when they ate a single breakfast. Other studies show that even if you eat the same number of calories distributed this way, your body releases less insulin, which keeps blood sugar steady and helps control hunger.

3) Downsize your dinner plates. Studies find that the less food put in front of you, the less food you’ll eat. Conversely, the more food in front of you, the more you’ll eat — regardless of how hungry you are. So instead of using regular dinner plates that range these days from 10-14 inches (making them look forlornly empty if they’re not heaped with food), serve your main course on salad plates (about 7-9 inches wide). The same goes for liquids. Instead of 16-ounce glasses and oversized coffee mugs, return to the old days of 8-ounce glasses and 6-ounce coffee cups.

4) Use vegetables to bulk up meals. You can eat twice as much pasta salad loaded with veggies like broccoli, carrots, and tomatoes for the same calories as a pasta salad sporting just mayonnaise. Same goes for stir-fries. And add vegetables to make a fluffier, more satisfying omelet without having to up the number of eggs.

5) Find ways other than eating to express love, tame stress, and relieve boredom. For instance, you might make your family a photo album of special events instead of a rich dessert, sign up for a stress-management course at the local hospital or take up an active hobby, like bowling.

Wii Fit

Posted in Gossip at 7:32 am by lesliegirl

Want a easy way to burn some calories and still have fun?  Why not try the Wii.  The Wii Fit is an excellent way to spend time with the family and some friends.  I personally love the Hulla Hoop.  At my house we are always having contests on who can make the most Hullas. Even if you don’t have the Wii Fit game you can have a bowling party right in your own home.

Can a Cell Phone Help you Loose Weight

Posted in Gossip at 3:42 pm by lesliegirl

I was recently reading Oprah online and they said yes, a Cell Phone can help you loose weight.  The more I read the more it made sense. Basically what they are saying is that before you put any meal and or snack in your mouth, take a picture of it.  It seems to be that if you see your portion or what you are about to eat you may change your mind. It makes you so much aware of what you are putting in your mouth.

What are your thoughts on this?

Leslie:  I think this is a great idea.  I am going to start this tonight.  It sort of reminds me of a friend.  You know you always have that one friend and or spouse that when you are shopping will say ” Do you really need that pair of shoes; ext era”  Well I think taking a picture will sort of be like that friend. I think for me personally I will look at my picture of what I am about to eat and say to myself,  “Maybe I should only have half of this plate”

My friend had been telling me how awesome The Natural Cafe is. I had tried it a few years ago and wasn’t impressed.  Well let me just tell you, I tried it again and it was so delicious.  I had a Gobbler Burger.  It was so good.  I have been raving about it ever since.  It is a Ground Turkey patty char-broiled, topped with grilled red onion, lettuce, tomato, Sprouts, served on a whole wheat bun with 1,000 Island Dressing.  If you live in Ventura County you should go check it out.  My friend Lara, is in love with the Cobb Salad.

Guiltless Lunch

Posted in Gossip, Uncategorized at 3:52 pm by lesliegirl

After a hard workout at the gym today, my friend and I were starving.  She has always loved Chilis. I have never been to crazy about it, but thought I would give it a try since she was saying how great their guiltless menu is.  Well even though I wasn’t before I am now. I got the Guiltless Buffalo Chicken Sandwich.  It came on a wheat bun with lettuce, grilled onions, and tomato.  It also came with a side of steamed veggies. It was awesome.  I highly recommend it.

Only problem was on the same page as the guiltless menu they had a picture of their Chocolate Chip Cookie Molten Cake. I think they need to re-think the layout.

Did Elastic make us Fat?

My sister and I were talking last week and she asked this question. “Did elastic make us fat?”  I first thought she was crazy, however the more I thought about it the more I think it might be true.  I mean when they started making designer sweats, everyone was wearing them.  I know when I am home in front of the TV I am always wearing some sort of elastic pants. I would eat, and not even notice my stomach expanding before my very eyes.  I know when I am at work wearing dress pants that are just so snug I am always aware of what I am putting in my mouth.

(Just a side note.  Did you know that Juicy Couture now sells plus size clothing. )

So I ask you…

Do you think elastic made you gain weight?

Just say no to samples?

costco

We love Costco and shop there regularly. Which got us thinking.. Can one day of sampling at Costco blow a whole week of healthy living? Do skinny girls just say no to samples? Or is it okay..everything in moderation?

Are you a juicer?

juicer

We are not juicers but just in case you are we wanted to share this little piece of information with you.   We heard on Doctor radio that juicing vegetables gets rid of all the fiber. The benefits of fiber include digestive health, heart health, diabetes, and our favorite weight management.  The doctor recommended turning the vegetables into a smoothie instead.
